Context
What drives the equipment selection
A data-centre battery lives in a very particular regime: it sits on standby almost all the time and discharges rarely — but when it does, it delivers high current for a short window, typically 7–20 minutes until the gensets take the load. That dictates high-rate designs at 5–6C and a battery bus of 384–614 V.
The second factor is floor space. A battery room competes with racks, and racks earn money. A lithium string takes roughly a third of the space and needs no separately ventilated room for hydrogen, so the move away from lead is often justified by reclaimed floor area rather than by maintenance savings.
The third is that the load itself has changed. AI racks produce steep power surges that the grid and on-site generation are not always ready for. Here a storage system is added alongside the UPS battery — for smoothing, not for backup.

Can a lead string be replaced in a live data centre without downtime?
As a rule yes — the work is planned per power path and per UPS section, with temporary redundancy in place. The sequence and schedule are agreed with your operations team during the audit.
How does battery monitoring connect to the DCIM system?
The BMS publishes data over Modbus TCP or SNMP into your existing monitoring system. No cloud is required — the loop stays inside your perimeter.
