Storage systems and batteries for oil, gas and remote field sites

The problem

Power from gensets, no grid connection, temperatures down to −40 °C.

What we install

Sodium-ion and cold-rated lithium batteries, containerised storage in insulated enclosures.

  • Na-ion container 2418 kWh
  • Storage in an insulated container
  • Hybrid genset + storage

Context

What drives the equipment selection

A field site differs in three ways: there is no grid or it is weak, power comes from gensets, and the temperature leaves the comfortable range in both directions. Each of the three changes the equipment selection.

A genset-plus-storage pair saves fuel and engine life: the generator runs at its rated point instead of idling on low load, while the storage system handles dips and surges. On rotational and seasonal sites it also makes it possible to shut the engine down overnight.

On cold sites sodium-ion often beats lithium on chemistry: a wider temperature range and better behaviour at deep discharge. We select the chemistry for the conditions instead of selling one technology to everyone.

What we need for a calculation

  • Supply arrangement: grid, gensets, their rating and duty cycle
  • Temperature range and whether a heated enclosure is available
  • Transport and installation constraints on site
  • Availability of maintenance staff and the option of remote monitoring

How we work

01

Engineering audit

We go through the specification and the site: load category, required autonomy, operating conditions, what is already installed.

02

Sizing and selection

We size the battery against the real discharge profile — not “with a margin, by eye”. You get 2–3 options with different economics.

03

Supply and commissioning

Delivery from stock or to order, installation, commissioning, training for your operations team.

04

Service and monitoring

Warranty and post-warranty service, remote condition monitoring, replacements scheduled on actual condition.

Q & A

Frequently asked questions

Do lithium batteries work below freezing?

Discharge is possible below freezing, charging is not — it requires positive temperatures. Cold sites therefore use heated designs, insulated containers or sodium-ion batteries with a wider range.

Can storage be installed on a site with no grid?

Yes, that is a standard case: the system works together with gensets or renewable generation in island mode. The EMS defines the logic.
